Postnatal Yoga Class
Our Parents and Babies Yoga classes are run by Mell Hehir, an Osteopath and Pelvic Health specialist who has worked in the Bacchus Marsh community for her entire career while raising 2 boys.
Mell has a strong interest in helping people find freedom in movement and in mind. Trained in postnatal yoga, clinical pilates, meditation, as well as prenatal yoga, Mell brings a mix of all these practices to offer a class that will go beyond stretching, and will give you tools for being a healthier parent.
What to Expect:
Physical strengthening - exercises to help parents and carers build the upper body & core strength needed to lift, move and carry a growing baby safely.
Community & connection - get to know others parents and babies in your community. Spend time connecting with others, and also with your baby.
Mental clarity - learn breathing and meditation techniques to help you develop the ability to find yourself & re-centre (even after the longest of nights!)
Postnatal recovery - the gentle exercises will help mums recover physically from pregnancy & childbirth.
Pelvic Health - exercises will consider pelvic floor health - both strengthening and relaxation techniques.
Despite having a postnatal focus, our Parents and Babies Yoga class is suitable for anyone with a young baby who needs to connect & to move.
Mums, dads and carers are all welcome, and the class is accessible to all fitness levels and beginners to yoga.
Mums, we recommend waiting until you are at least 6-8 weeks postpartum before attending class.
FAQs
What should I bring?
Your baby! Of course… but a few other things to consider are:
Wear comfortable clothing you can move freely in.
Bring a comfy blanket or mat to rest your baby on at the top of your yoga mat during postures.
Bring anything your baby may need during the hour. We have storage boxes at the entrance if you want to keep your yoga mat clear.
Yoga mats and props are provided.
Is there pram storage?
Unfortunately not.
We recommend please carrying your baby to the studio has limited secure storage space for prams off the main street, and we are at the top of a flight of stairs.
What age babies do you recommend for the class?
We are happy to welcome parents with babies under 1 year.
From past experience we’ve found that parents generally find it easier to join class while babies are still young, up until they start actively crawling and moving fast.
What if my baby cries or needs a nappy change?
Thats all part of the fun!
An hour together with a room full of babies, please expect some crying, feeding, sleeping, giggling and no doubt a good few nappy changes. If you need to attend to your baby at any time please feel comfortable to move around as you need.
We have a toilet and baby change facilities available also to make life easier for you.
Can I attend without my baby or bring my friend/partner?
We recommend attending with your baby, however if you get a babysitter and end up having some you-time, of course we still welcome you!
If you have a friend, partner or family member who wishes to attend with you & your baby, they are welcome. Speak to us to arrange booking an additional guest if you want them to join you on a one-off class.
Do you offer Prenatal Yoga?
We don’t currently offer a Prenatal or Pregnancy Yoga classes at Chi Kin Yoga Studio, however if this is something you are interested in, please contact us to register your interest! We are always evolving our offering so appreciate your requests.
How involved will my baby be?
Good question! Exercises will be based on mum, but we will offer variations to incorporate holding & moving your baby as much as possible so it is fun & interactive for you both. Bring a blanket or mat to lay them on if you’d prefer to give your arms a rest.
